For people that would like to make a career out of diving and have no diving experience this program is ideal. As the career option takes at least six months to complete there is a great deal of flexibility. We have put together a sample schedule for you to use but this can be adapted in many ways. You will find Cairns an ideal location to complete the whole program as the town is a convineant and a fun place to stay, The Great Barrier reef is a great place to dive and at PRO DIVE CAIRNS you will get top service and a greater learning experience.

First you will need to complete a diving medical to Australian standards (AS4005.1) and (AS2299). This will tell you that you are fit for diving at the recreational and professional level. Next comes the PADI Open Water Dive Course. You will spend two days diving in the Pool and completing Classroom Training, Followed by a 3 day Live-A-Board trip on the Great Barrier Reef. During this trip you will grasp the basics of scuba diving, as you will complete about 9 dives. To really get you addicted to bubble blowing you’ll go on a “fun” trip (11 dives). Your next mission is to complete the PADI Adventures in Diving Course this program will be completed entirely on the reef, during another 3-day trip. Here you will gain more experience by diving and completing tasks under supervision like: Deeper diving, Navigating, Night Diving, taking Underwater Photos and many more options. Here you can complete 11 dives.
After getting these two levels under your belt you will be ready to complete the challenging task called the PADI Rescue Diver Course. Now you will learn to focus on preventing problems or dealing with them swiftly as they occur. This next 3-day trip will be “serious fun”. A combination of pleasure dives and rescue sessions like: Search and Recovery, Surfacing with an unconscious diver, Dealing with an unresponsive person on the surface and finally getting the diver out of the water. Another 10 dives will go on your slate (logbook). Now we will send you on a pleasure diving trip just to unwind and enjoy the beauty of diving on the reef in general. This will increase your experience by 11 dives.
The PADI Dive Master program is geared towards dealing with people / divers in many ways. Organizing the dives, acting as a dive guide, being a role model diver, recharging the tanks after the dives and making sure all divers are safe. During this course you will get loads of hands on experience in the pool and on the boat and you will spend time in the class learning the theory behind the diving pro. You will spend time with several open water classes to see different instructors work and get different ideas on transferring information to student divers.

By now you will have more than 70 dives under your belt and it is time to give you some time on dry land experience. The next 3 months will be occupied with spending days in the shop (sales) more time in the training centre (pool dives and class time) and more live-a-board trips (3) assisting instructors and getting experience helping divers / students. You will have time to complete several dive specialties during these trips and they can be converted to instructor level at a later date.
The next mission will be the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).
The IDC consists of two intense weeks focusing on learning how to teach. This training could be used to teach many subjects and is recognised by ANTA (Australian National Training Authority). Again a combination of classroom time, pool dives and ocean dives. The dives will be completed on Fitzroy Island during a weekend stay. You will return to this training ground, as PADI will run the PADI IE here the weekend after your IDC. The IE (Instructor Exams) is run completely by PADI and they will look at you subjectively to see if you fit the profile of a competent PADI Dive Instructor.

During and After the IDC you will get a chance to participate in Instructor level specialty training. Most popular is the Emergency First Response Instructor Course, as this course can be taught all around the world and is adaptable to many countries. This credential offers you a wider repertoire of courses to teach and makes you more employable no matter where you go.
